It’s a known fact—whether you’re a Clinton follower, a watch fanatic, or simply an owner of human retinas—that the 42nd president of these United States is an avid collector of watches. From several fairly publicized Panerais (a titanium PAM 89 Luminor GMT and a ceramic PAM 282 Radiomir Black Seal, to be exact) to an unfairly lambasted enthusiasm for Shinolas, our Bubba knows good horology and likes to show it and share it.
The fine folks at Deployant have compiled some of their favorite sightings of the lesser known items in the former POTUS’s impressive collection. Do check out the full post here. Here are a few of our favorites:
Below is Clinton wearing a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Compressor Diving Alarm Navy SEALs watch, a revival of the 1959 JLC Memovox Deep Sea, the first diving watch to be fitted with an alarm. Produced in partnership with the U.S. Navy SEALs, arguably the most elite divers in the world, this timepiece may not pair so well with a suit, but it sure does make a statement.
Moving on to another brand we love, Clinton is seen below in the impossibly elegant A. Lange & Söhne Grosse Langematik Gangreserve, a limited edition made for German jeweler Gerhard D. Wempe to celebrate the 100th birthday of Chronometerwerke Hamburg (which became Wempe Chronometerwerke in 1938). Clinton’s is one of 100 watches made of platinum. Not too shabby, Bill.
Another Eleven James favorite brand, Audemars Piguet, is represented in the below shot of POTUS in an Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Chronograph. With its rose gold bezel and vintage feel, it’s an appropriately charming accountrement for one of the most infamously charming heads of state the modern world has known. Clinton’s relationship with AP extends beyond style and into the philanthropic, as the Swiss watchmaker announced in 2007 the release of the Clinton Foundation Equation of Time collection of watches, a portion of the proceeds for which were earmarked for the Clinton Foundation, a global fund to advance humanitarian causes around the world.
